Introduction: Rudiment Die

My daughter was playing with my husbands DnD dice and I thought it would be diverting to make a set for her to looseness with! I intellection she would have more interestingness in a lot of dice with letters and pictures along them quite than normal dots, so this will picture you how I've made my ordered along with the files to publish your own. These are really easy to make using Tinkercad and I used JON-A-TRON's tutorial.

Of course, in the last, she is more interested in her dad's than the nice set I made for her merely I'm going to percentage mine with you regardless :)

Supplies

To make these, all you really need is Tinkercad, a 3D Printer, and your filament of choice. When it comes to colors I recommend non using single that is too light (white) or too dark (black) but ones in between look fine and I actually set up this Marble Filament to calculate really nice.

If you want to colouring material the cube you will possibly need:

  • Clear Coat Spray
  • Sharpie Mark
  • Acrylic
  • Rosin (I haven't tried and true this and it would take quite a while to do, but resin could glucinium a nice way to color and fill in the numbers/letters)

Step 1: Design

There are deuce things to look at when making your play dice, how big do you want them and what suffice you want on them.

I decided to try cardinal different sizes. The large die is 1" cubed and the smaller break is .75" cubed.

I ill-used the dice shape that is already in the Tinkercad basic shapes menu. You could also use a cube and mess some with the edge curves but the premade dice shape is so nice, I just went with that.

Close take the shapes or letters you privation to set out along the dice. I made this beautiful unambiguous and my dice have:

  • Die 1: A, B, C, D, E, F
  • Dice 2: G, H, I, J, K, L (I added a line to the spinning top and bottom of the I every bit I tend to coiffe to make IT look nicer)
  • Dice 3: M, N, O, P, Q, R
  • Dice 4: S, T, U, V, W, X
  • Dice 5: Y, Z, !, ?, Corner, Star/Sun forge
  • Dice 6: Star, Car, Heart, Little mortal, Butterfly, Flower

Once you have your dice, have it cherry-sized, and have the images you require on the die, you just need to make the letters and shapes into holes, line them up then they are centered, and group them.

To make things easier happening myself, I rough all my shapes upbound with the top of the dice and then just rotated the dice to add them to IT instead of disagreeable to circumvolve all the letters around the dice.

Step 2: 2 Color Cube

For the two color dice (for a multi media printer) I just made sure to copy every the shapes and letters and communication channel them game up after cutting them out of the die.

Step 3: To Paint or Not to Paint

If you are doing the cube one color, they are perfectly elegant as is, or you can try to make the letters and numbers excel more.

There are a couple ways to make out this. I attemped this with sharpie and with paint.

Card sharp:

What I found was that sharpie was straightaway, easy, and would cover well but it would bleed. One manner to foreclose this is to firstborn spray the die with a pelage or 2 of a clearly coat. Then, when that is try, use the sharpie. You can spray on more liquid coat if you want to really Navy SEAL that color in.

Paint:

Paint is pretty relaxed, as long as you can stay in the lines, simply you feature to hold back for it to dry and so it can take longer. I don't think waterproofing IT first will piss a big conflict but you can if you privation. I would recommend waterproofing after painting through then IT doesn't flake.

Resin?

I mentioned resin in the supplies because I think that would beryllium a nice way to finish these, but you could only rattling do one side at a time so it's not practical. You would hold to habituate a dropper and fill in the letter with a dyed resin so let it pose before doing the next side.

Step 4: Size

Just another take the dice and comparing the large 1" one to the smaller .75" ace.

Step 5: Marble Filament
